A tent is mainly composed of two parts, one is the aluminum alloy mainframe, and the other is the tent cover. Generally, what are the properties of tent tarp?
1.Basic Performance Requirements
It is usually required to have the "three-proof" function. That is, waterproof, fireproof (flame retardant), and mildew proof.
(1) Lightweight, easy to fold and carry;
(2) High strength, resistance to wear and tear;
(3) Good waterproof and breathable ability, anti-condensation inside;
(4) Acid and alkali resistance, mildew resistance, and corrosion resistance;
(5) Terrific weather resistance, flame retardant, and fireproof performance;
(6) No wicking effect or moisture phenomenon.
2.Main Performance Indicators
In the specific product design or use, the following should be considered.
(1)Air Permeability: It must be considered, especially for military tent fabrics. The influencing factors include base fabric organization, density, material, resin adhesion, and so on. As the amount of resin adhesion increases, the air permeability of the tarpaulin decreases, which is also related to the waterproof finishing agent used. Generally, most air-permeable tents are made of staple fiber fabrics such as cotton, nylon finished with paraffin wax or acrylic resin.
(2)Tensile Strength: When using the tarp, it must bear various tensions, such as tension when it is fixed and tight and additional forces such as wind and rain during use. Under these external forces, the tent tarp is still required a higher tensile strength to maintain its original shape and not easily deformed. Usually, the base fabric is made of high-strength polyester, nylon, and other mid fiber, which are waterproof and finished with vinyl chloride resin and chlorosulfonated polyethylene resin. The strength of the product is mainly determined by the strength of the fiber material and the density of the textile.
(3)Elongation and Dimensional Stability: As hip end tents and large tents, they are often used under tension, so the fabric extension should not be too large. And its size stability is determined by the creep characteristics of the material.
(4)Tear Resistance: The damage of the tent tarp is mainly caused by tearing, so the tear strength is an important indicator. It is also related to whether the tarpaulin will break due to the effect of external objects or extension to the surroundings after forming a hole for some reason. Therefore, when the tension is high, the tarpaulin is required to have both high tensile strength and tear resistance.
(5)Waterproofness: It is an important criterion of the tent cover. Through impregnation and finishing, vinyl chloride resin is filled in the gaps of the fabric to form a coating film. If the amount of resin adhesion per unit area exceeds a certain level, water resistance is not a problem. If the coating film is thin, it is easy to break when it is bent, rubbed, or worn, which may cause water leakage.
(6)Flame Retardance: From the perspective of safety in use, the tent tarp is required to have good flame retardancy. This can be achieved by selecting flame-retardant fibers and base fabrics, or by adding flame retardants to the coating agent. The amount of flame retardant added is directly related to the flame retardant effect.
